A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned criminal proceedings against six suspected fraudsters arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) with forged documents.
Justice Musa Kurya adjourned the case till November 13, 2014 after the prosecuting witness has concluded evidence.
The six accused persons, Abiodun Ojo, Uche Nwankpa, Charles Ali, Abutu Emmanuel, Sunday Nwaeze and Ngozie Ibeh were convicted on a five-count charge including impersonation, forgery, obtaining money on false pretense among others.
The NCS had on September 6, 2013 paraded the six suspected fraudsters arrested with various forged Customs documents at the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja.
Consequently, the NCS on September 10, 2013 filed a criminal charge against them for counterfeiting and selling of fake Customs auction allocation paper, counterfeiting of the Official Seal of the Comptroller-General of Customs, counterfeiting of the Official Seal of Officer in charge of valuation, NCS, Idiroko –Ogun State and counterfeiting the Official Seal of Officer in charge of valuation seat, Apapa, in Apapa Command of NCS and conspiracy.
The offence allegedly contravened the provisions of Sections 162 (a), 162 (d) and 166 of Customs and Excise Management Act cap C45 Laws of the Federation.
The prosecution team was drawn from the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Lagos and was led by Ajakaye, J.I (Assistant Legal Adviser) while Mr. Awogbemi, O.P led the team of investigators.
