Driver in court for reckless driving, injuring 3 persons

India arrests another Nigerian for hard drugs

 

A 35-year-old driver, Uche Jude, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly driving recklessly and causing serious injury to three persons in Lagos.

Jude is facing a three-count charge of causing an accident, reckless driving and driving without consideration to other road users.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on November 18, 2019 at about 8:30am along Balogun Market, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

“The defendant drove an highlander vehicle with registration number KSF 156 FZ in a reckless manner which caused serious wound to the following persons; Chikwu Ibeckwu (30), Nuhu Mohammed (27) and Majo Tolo (32).

“The defendant drove the same vehicle in a dangerous manner on the highway without consideration to other road users,” Bassey said.

The prosecutor said the offences are punishable under sections 20, 19(2) and 18(1) of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State 2012.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Ramot Ayilara granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till December 3, 2019 for mention.
