Operatives of the Ogun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have impounded a Volvo truck containing 190 bags of rice concealed in sacks of local cassava flour.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, a copy of which was made available to SHIPS & PORTS in Lagos on Tuesday, said the items were carefully concealed in a Volvo truck with registration number: BEN–236 ZW Edo State between Rounda to Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the statement, “Further examination revealed 190 bags of foreign parboiled rice carefully packaged in a deceptive manner in order to perpetuate the illicit act of hampering the economic progress of our dear nation.
“It is pertinent to recall that on 07th of May, 2019 the same unit intercepted a tipper truck (Volvo made) along Ilaro-Papalanto axis of Ogun State with chasis number: YBIG5A3A9SB140227 misconstrued to be containing sand (fine aggregate). Upon further examination, 200 bags of foreign parboiled rice were also uncovered.”
