A middle-aged man identified as Francis Oboh was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences and causing pandemonium at the police station.
Oboh is facing a four-count charge of reckless driving, abandoned vehicle, careless driving and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 7, 2019 along Oshodi-Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of unregistered car drove same on the public highway in a reckless and dangerous manner,” Perezi said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant abandoned a vehicle without a caution sign, which he said was careless and inconsiderate.
Perezi added that the defendant at the Kirikiri Police Station conducted himself in a disorderly manner and caused breach of peace and disharmony by hitting his hands on the doors and rudely shouted with fierce voice, which threw the police station into pandemonium.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 19, 8, 18(1) of Road Traffic Law 2012 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government including 6 months bank statement.
She adjourned the case till March 6, 2019 for mention.
