FG to support private investors in transport sector – Amaechi

The federal government has assured private investors in the transport sector of support through the provision of conducive atmosphere for their businesses to thrive.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi gave the assurance on Monday at the maritime stakeholders’ appreciation night organised by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.

The minister who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Zabiu Zakari commended the council for hosting the private sector saying that such initiative is an important means of adding value to the sector

He urged the private sector not to hesitate to bring to the notice of the government their complaints and new ideas towards developing the sector along international best practices.

“The federal government will support and encourage the private sector to lead the transport sector and continue to provide conducive atmosphere for its operation.

“The private sector on their part should engage government through its agencies to bring to the notice of the government their complaints if any and new ideas towards developing the sector along international best practices. I urged the private sector to work closely with the NSC in moving the sector forward,” he said.

He urged the stakeholders to support such effort aimed at maintaining cordial relationship in the overall interest of the nation’s economic development.

In her remarks, President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Mrs Nike Akande said there is need for government to make the ports and international trade processes more investment friendly.

She pointed out that if the government makes the right policies, the country will in no time get out of the current economic recession.

Executive Secretary of NSC, Hassan Bello said synergy among stakeholders is critical in moving the sector forward.

He called on government to be consistent and predictable in its policy decisions in order to ensure all stakeholders are carried along.

“Whatever you do, ensure you collaborate with the stakeholders. The private sector is leading in the revolution of the port. If we have the synergy then we would have the balance and if we have the balance, we will have the equilibrium and that means everybody is being considered in major policies decisions,” he said.
