Lagos State Government on Thursday said the lingering dispute that led to the gruesome murder of the managing director of Lekki Free Zone Limited Tajudeen Disu has been resolved, even as it inaugurated the resettlement committee.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Rotimi Ogunleye who disclosed this while inaugurating the committee in Lagos said the state government has recorded a major milestone in its bid at permanently resolving the protracted civil disturbance in the zone.
According to him, the feat settles the recurring civil disturbance in the zone occasioned by the perceived imbalances in the resettlement plans for the indigenous people of the zone by the Lagos State Government.
He said the inaugurated five different resettlement committees is aimed at ending the differences between residents of communities.
The inaugurated committees include Abomiti Zone, Lekki Coastal Zone, Yegunda Zone, Lekki-Epe Zone and Abejoye Zone, a major spot where the confrontation between the security officials and the residents occurred.
Ogunleye said that the essence of the committees was to foster mutual relationship between communities and the state government.
He added that the essence of the committee was to ensure a hitch free delivery of the LFZ project as a vehicle for industrial for industrial development in the state.
Ogunleye said, “The government is committed to the sanctity of the White paper and it strategic implementation. Therefore, as part of the fulfillment of the recommendations of the White paper, is its emphasis on the Resettlement committee as against Community Relation Committee.”
