A 41-year-old man, Awolu Yisa, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing over N7m being proceeds from the sales of premium motor spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol.
Yisa is facing a one-count charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Ferdinand Asu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 25th and 31st January, 2020 in Apapa.
“The defendant stole the sum of N7,066,000 being proceeds from the sales of PMS belonging to AA RANO Oil & Gas,” Asu said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate M.O Olubi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Olubi said the sureties must be residents in Lagos and one of them must be a land owner in Lagos. He adjourned the matter till February 26, 2020 for mention.
