A 47-year-old man, Isa Tahiru, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a gold chain valued at N135,000 at Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
Tahiru is facing a one-count charge of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in February 2019 at about 2pm at Freedom Market, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendant stole a gold chain with petal valued at N135,000 property of one Odey Augustine,” Bassey said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate L.A Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till January 14, 2020 for mention.
