Tanker driver accused of stealing 830 litres of petrol

A 30-year-old tanker driver, Wasiu Hamed, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s for allegedly stealing 830 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol at Apapa. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 26, 2019 at Apapa. 

“The defendant stole 830 litres of PMS product valued at N127,331 belonging to one Usman Akanbi,” Onaiwu said. 

According to her, the offence is punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. 

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible  sureties in like sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government. 

He adjourned the matter till January 13, 2020 for mention.
