An Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday gave N20,000 as part of bail conditions to a 29-year-old man, identified as Azubike Kester for allegedly stealing a phone.
Kester is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 5, 2019 at about 10am at Demorose Bus Stop, Lagos.
“The defendant stole one Infinix Hot 4 camera handset valued at N37,000 property of one Anthony Grace,” Ogbongha said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till March 11, 2019 for mention.
In a separate matter, 24-year-old man identified as Nworu Wisdom was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa
Magistrates’ Court for allegedly retaining a phone valued at N225,000 in Apapa.
Wisdom is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 7, 2019 at Apapa.
“The defendant dishonestly received and retained one Samsung Galaxy S8 phone valued at N225,000 property of one Ani Kenneth Ugochukwu, knowing or having reason to believe the same have been stolen,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The surety, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till March 27, 2019 for mention.
