Truck driver docked for stealing tarpaulin

A 31-year-old truck driver, Abbas Mohammed, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one truck tarpaulin in Apapa.

Mohammed is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 25, 2019 at Apapa.

“The defendant stole one truck tarpaulin valued at N60,000 property of Al-Hadiat Nigeria Limited at No 35, Bornu Crescent, Apapa,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Owoyemi Tiamiyu granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government. The surety should be a blood relative to the defendant.

He adjourned the case till September 10, 2019 for mention.
