A 33-year-old man identified as Obi Gift was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly committing a fraud to the tune of N3.95 million in Apapa.
Gift is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between April 19, 2019 and April 23, 2019 at Kirikiri, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to fraudulently steal the sum of N3,949,872 property of one Joseph Igwe Ogboji,” Bassey said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate A.O Olorunfemi granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of three years tax to Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must also be a blood relation to the defendant.
He adjourned the matter till May 28, 2019 for mention.
