The police on Thursday arraigned two men, Ibrahim Abdulahi (23) and Isa Mustapha (20), before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly having in their possession weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in Apapa.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
The prosecutor, ASP Ferdinard Asu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 22, 2019 at about 7:30pm at Wasamu area under bridge, Ijora, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired with others at large to unlawfully have in their possession weeds suspected to be Indian hemp,” Asu said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate M.O Olubi granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till September 30, 2019 for mention.
