The Ports Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (PCIID) of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday arraigned eight men before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to steal diesel from vessel anchored in Apapa.
The eight men are Keme Omomo (36), Ayomibo Aladetan (35), Seun Enegbehu (25), Damola Durosimi (25), Omolade Omosowone (23), John Moses (22), Olamide Adeoye (20) and Moses Ernest (22). They are facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and attempt to steal.
The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 26, 2018 at about 1am between ENL jetty, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with one at large attempted to steal diesel from JURKALNE MAJURO IMO 9323326 vessel anchored between ENL and NOG waterways, Apapa,” Esebamen said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 406 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants however pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.
Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till July 18, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 25-year-old man, identified as Solomon Joseph was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing compressor from a truck in Lagos.
Joseph is facing one-count charge bothering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan told the court the defendant committed the offence on June 28, 2018 at about 11pm at Maria Road, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant stole one compressor from a Mack Truck valued at N80,000 property of Thomlee Nigeria Limited,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 406 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
She adjourned the case till July 24, 2018 for trial.
