Two truck drivers, Okafor Chukwuebuka (25) and Ndubuisi Eze (29), were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly damaging a seal attached to a 1X40ft container and stealing 14 packs of milk at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.
The duo is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and wilful damage.
The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 10, 2019 at about 9:49pm at APM Terminals inside the Apapa port.
“The defendants conspired to steal 14 packs of Popular Milk valued at N25,000 property of APMT Company. They wilfully and unlawfully damaged a seal attached to a 1X40ft container number MRKU 7230101,” Esebamen said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287(f) and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate Adegboyega Popoola granted them N50,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
Each surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till September 2, 2019 for mention.
