Truck drivers docked for fighting in public

Two truck drivers namely, Amuzie Okafor (56) and Chigozie Eze (59) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly fighting in a public place.

The defendants are facing a one-count charge of fighting.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 30, 2019 at about 9:30am at Plot 154, Popoola Agai Street, Diamond Estate, Amuwo-Odofin.

“The defendants engaged themselves in a physical fighting in a public place,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 54 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against them.

Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted them N20,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.

Each surety is required to furnish the court with one year tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till September 2, 2019 for mention.
