Two brothers, Isaiah Eboigbe (30) and Gabriel Eboigbe (20), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one Goriola Adeyemi with dangerous weapons and smoking Indian hemp in Lagos.
The Eboigbes are facing a seven-count charge bordering on breach of peace, malicious damage, assault, possession of dangerous weapons, cultism and smoking Indian hemp.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 15, 2019 at about 10am at 511 Road, Block 7, Festac Town, Lagos.
“The defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by brandishing all sorts of dangerous weapons like cutlasses, broken bottles and gun,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants maliciously damaged the wall of a shop belonging to one Goriola Adeyemi and assaulted him by tearing his clothes and pushing him against the wall. They also allegedly threatened to kill him in his shop.
Aigbokhan added that the defendants were found wandering at 511 Road, Block 7, Festac Town under such circumstance as to lead to the conclusion that they were there for illegal or disorderly purpose.
He said the offences are punishable under sections 168(d), 350, 171, 56, 168(2), 42(a) and 44(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate A.O Olorunfemi granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till May 28, 2019 for mention.
