With 1.25bn tonnes in 2022, Ningbo-Zhoushan remains world’s busiest port

China shuts container terminal at Ningbo as COVID-19 rips through port 

 

China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan port handled over 1.25 billion tonnes cargo in 2022, keeping the number one spot globally for a 14th consecutive year.

Container volume at Ningbo-Zhoushan port was 33.35 million TEU, ranking the third globally following Shanghai and Singapore.

As the end of 2022, sea routes services provided by Ningbo-Zhoushan port totalled 300, with an additional of 13 new international services.

Sea-rail combined container volume exceeded 1.45 million TEU for the first time, growing 20% year-on-year.

There were 64 loading and discharging voyages for 400,000 tonnes-class ore carriers at the port, with an increase of 10.35% over the previous year.

Ro-ro service for automobile transportation also achieved a growth rate of 26.4%.
