A 46-year-old woman, Bridget Princess, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N547,000 in Apapa.
Bridget is facing a six-count charge including fraud, false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at different times, dates and places.
“The defendant on June 28, 2019 at about 10am at No 82, Marine, Apapa fraudulently obtained the sum of N200,000 from one Chase Microfinance Bank with the pretence that she was going to pay back within six weeks, knowing same to be false. She stole the sum of N200,000 property of Chase Microfinance Bank.
“The defendant, sometimes in the month of March and April 2019, at No 34, Casco Street, Amuwo-Odofin, fraudulently obtained the sum of N315,000 from Capital Boost Limited with the pretence that she was going to pay back within six weeks, knowing same to be false. she stole the sum of N315,000 property of Capital Boost Limited.
‘’The defendant, sometimes in the month of September 2019 at about 11:30am at No 25, Awoyemi Street, Amukoko fraudulently obtained the sum of N32,000 from one Ismaila Aminat with the pretence that she was going to deposit the same amount into her (Aminat) account at Chase Microfinance Bank which she failed to do. She stole the sum of N32,000 property of one Ismaila Aminat,” Job said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 315(1b) and 287(5) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, while Magistrate A.I Alaka granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till January 9, 2020 for mention.
