A 45-year-old man, Ahmed Mohammed, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N8.2 million under the pretence to import goods.
Mohammed is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in 2014 at Festac, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant obtained the sum of N8.2 million from one Nelson Nora with the pretence to trade with the money and return the proceeds, a representation he knew to be false,” Babatope said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 313 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Enitan Ojudun granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till October 3, 2019 for mention.
