A 29-year-old businesswoman, Nwusulor Ogechukwu, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N3,223,000 worth of stockfish in Lagos.
Ogechukwu is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 24, 2019 at about 2pm at BOSVIP Global Logistics Warehouse, Makanjuola Market, Sari Iganmu, Orile, Lagos.
“The defendant, with intent to defraud BOSVIP Global Logistics represented by one Akinshiku Olawale Roy, obtained 383,000 bags of stockfish valued at N3,223,000 with intent to sell and refund money to the company.
“The defendant stole 383,000 bags of stockfish valued at N3,223,000 property of BOSVIP Global Logistics,” Aigbokhan said.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till March 4, 2020 for mention.
