The police on Tuesday arraigned one Solomon Gwawoh (53) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly requesting for 10,000 metric tons of diesel by forging the company’s letterhead in Apapa.
Gwawoh is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in January 2019 at Index Petrolube Africa Ltd, Kirikiri Depot, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large with the intent to defraud, forged Index Petrolube Africa Ltd, petroleum product tank terminal letter head paper which was addressed to the Managing Director, Imperial Refinery and Petrochemical Inc, requesting for storage of 10,000 M/T of AGO also known as diesel in its tank farm, a representation which he knows to be false,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 365(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Tiamiyu Owoyemi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Owoyemi adjourned the case till May 16, 2019 for mention.
