Two men assault police officers with dangerous weapon

Two men namely Sunday Uzochukwu (24) and Chukwueze Maduka (34) were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting two police officers with dangerous weapons.

Uzochukwu and Maduka are facing a three-count and two-count charge respectively bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 3, 2019 at about 1:40pm at Maza-Maza Old Ojo Road, Kuje-Amuwo, Lagos.

“The defendants conspired together to unlawfully and seriously assault one Sergeant Jude Anyi attached to Satellite Division by using an object to hit him on his forehead where he sustained injury and equally used the said object to hit one Inspector Ferguson Imhandorie on his head where he also sustained internal injury,” Balogun said.

The prosecutor also said that Uzochukwu had in his possession one iPhone 8 handset with a yet-to-be-determined value, which he could not give satisfactory account of and which is reasonably suspected to be stolen.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 174(b) and 329(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate T.R Oladele granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till May 14, 2019 for trial.
