A 35-year-old truck driver, Sulaiman Adetunji, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting N130,000 on the pretence of conveying goods to Apapa.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in March 2019 at Wharf Road, Apapa.
“The defendant collected the sum of N130,000 from one Ibrahim Ademola on the pretence of conveying his export wood from Ogere, Ogun State to Apapa Wharf, Lagos.” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant, who is facing a one-count charge bordering on false pretence, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate T.R.A Oladele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25,000 with one surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till April 30, 2019 for mention.
