Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), International Freight Forwarders Association (IFFA), Peter Obi has tagged the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders (AREFFN) as mushroom associations.
Obi who said this recently in Lagos, said the leadership of the associations have failed clearing agents and freight forwarders. He accused the associations of being “more concerned about their selfish interests”.
“Take needle sew your pockets. Let there not be pockets in your trousers and shirts for now. Do your work and money will come later. Get to know the job first. If you as an IFFA member should go out there and start doing like ANLCA, NAGAFF, AREFFN and other mushroom associations, nobody will know the difference,” Obi told members of his new association. “The associations have failed us and all they have in their mind is what will enter their pockets.”
“This association has been in place since 2002 and since then, we have been monitoring, seeing what is happening and how other associations are nose-diving. With the inauguration only, fear has entered so many areas and very soon IFFA will be the only association in the port,” Obi, who was a chapter chairman and a serving Board of Trustees member of ANLCA added.
